2. Social Norm Experiment
Some sociology can be fun! For this activity you will be required to perform a social experiment outside of the classroom. Basically you will be breaking a social norm. Please do not do anything that would put you in any kind of danger. If you are unsure as to whether your idea will break a social norm or not please see me to discuss. Though you may think this a joke, some people may not react as you anticipated. Be careful.
You will be required to write a reflection paper on this experiment. I want to know what you did, what reactions you thought you might elicit. How you felt breaking the social norm. What reactions you did in fact get. You will need to try the experiment at least a couple of times to get a sense of other’s reactions. Apply sociological concepts that we have discussed in class to your experiment to help explain your reactions and those of others to your violation of a social norm. You will need to provide two sources to help you write this paper. They may not be your textbook. These are used to back up your observations with the research. This paper should be about 1,000 words long.
